Martha Christina Tiahahu was a freedom fighter. When she took part in the battle against the Dutch army during the Pattimura War (1817), she was still a teenager. Her bravery was well-known among fighters, the wider community, and even her enemies. Since the beginning of the struggle, she always took part and never gave up. With her long hair flowing down her back and a headband of red cloth, she faithfully accompanied her father in every battle, both on Nusalaut Island and on Saparua Island. Day and night she was always present and took part in making the defense forts. She also raised the spirits of the women around her to help the men on every battlefield.
